Angela Köppl Was Elected to the Supervisory Board of ÖBB-Holding

Ministry of Climate Action Nominated WIFO Environmental Economist

At the Annual General Assembly of ÖBB-Holding on 28 May 2020, Angela Köppl was elected to the Supervisory Board. The WIFO environmental economist was nominated by the Federal Ministry of Climate Action.

"Public transport is a central component for successful climate protection throughout Europe. I am therefore pleased that we were able to attract such qualified candidates with diverse skills and extensive knowledge, especially in the European transport system, to the Supervisory Board", said Federal Minister Leonore Gewessler. "I am convinced that they will all make an important contribution to a sustainable and climate-friendly ÖBB."

In addition to Angela Köppl, Elfriede Baumann (Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of the TU Vienna Foundation and former partner and Managing Director of Ernst&Young), Brigitte Ederer (former Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board of ÖBB Holding and former General Director of Siemens Austria), Markus Himmelbauer (Commercial Director Wenzel logistics GmbH), Herbert Kasser (Secretary General, BMK), Cattina Maria Leitner (Attorney at Law), Andrea Reithmayer (former Vice Rector for Finance at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences) and Kurt Weinberger (Chairman of the Management Board Österreichische Hagelversicherung) were appointed as members of the Supervisory Board.

Angela Köppl is Senior Economist at WIFO and has been working in the Research Group "Environment, Agriculture and Energy" since 1992. She held the position of WIFO's Deputy Director twice and was responsible for research coordination in this position. She received her doctorate in Economics from the University of Vienna in 1991. From 1987 to 1992 she worked as a research assistant in the Department of Economics at the Institute for Advanced Studies. In 2002 she spent a research stay at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge (USA). She is Vice President of the Austrian Chapter of the Club of Rome. As a member of the board of the Climate Change Center Austria (CCCA) in its early years, she contributed significantly to its establishment. Key areas of her research are climate change and the transformation of the energy system, economic instruments of climate policy, such as eco-taxes and emissions trading, as well as Austrian and EU energy and climate policy.
