WIFO-Konjunkturtest

The WIFO-Konjunkturtest (business cycle survey) is a monthly survey of Austrian companies on their economic situation and its development in the coming months. The results of the WIFO-Konjunkturtest help to reliably assess the economic development in Austria at an early stage. The WIFO-Konjunkturtest has been conducted since 1954 and has been part of the "Joint Harmonised EU Programme of Business and Consumer Surveys" since 1996.

Die Ergebnisse des WIFO-Konjunkturtests zeigen für den Jänner eine Stabilisierung. Der WIFO-Konjunkturklimaindex notierte mit 12,9 Punkten (saisonbereinigt) 1,3 Punkte über dem Wert des Vormonats (11,7 Punkte). Dieser Effekt ist zum großen Teil auf die Rücknahme der drastischen Einschränkungsmaßnahmen Mitte Dezember zurückzuführen. Indexverbesserungen waren vorwiegend in Branchen zu verzeichnen, die im Vormonat durch die Einschränkungsmaßnahmen besonders betroffen waren. Wegen der weiterhin bestehenden Einschränkungsmaßnahmen, Lieferengpässe und der Unsicherheit bezüglich der Auswirkungen der Omikron-Welle, sind die Unternehmen vorsichtig und erwarten eine etwas schwächere Konjunkturdynamik.

Economic Assessments Stabilise. Results of the WIFO-Konjunkturtest (Business Cycle Survey) of January 2022
The results of the WIFO-Konjunkturtest (business cycle survey) show a stabilisation for January. At 12.9 points (seasonally adjusted), the WIFO Business Climate Index was 1.3 points above the value of the previous month (11.7 points). This effect is largely due to the withdrawal of the drastic restrictive measures in mid-December. Index improvements were mainly recorded in sectors that were particularly affected by the restrictive measures in the previous month. Due to the ongoing restrictive measures, supply bottlenecks and uncertainty about the impact of the Omicron wave, companies are cautious and expect a somewhat weaker economic momentum.
