WIFO-Konjunkturtest

The WIFO-Konjunkturtest (business cycle survey) is a monthly survey of Austrian companies on their economic situation and its development in the coming months. The results of the WIFO-Konjunkturtest help to reliably assess the economic development in Austria at an early stage. The WIFO-Konjunkturtest has been conducted since 1954 and has been part of the "Joint Harmonised EU Programme of Business and Consumer Surveys" since 1996.

Die Ergebnisse des WIFO-Konjunkturtests zeigen im Juli einen deutlichen Rückgang der Konjunkturdynamik. Der WIFO-Konjunkturklimaindex notierte mit 10,5 Punkten (saisonbereinigt) 6,1 Punkte unter dem Wert des Vormonats (16,7 Punkte). Die Ergebnisse zeigen eine Abschwächung bei den Lageeinschätzungen und den Konjunkturerwartungen. Während die Lageindikatoren nach wie vor ein positives Konjunkturumfeld zeichnen, signalisieren die unternehmerischen Erwartungen schwache Konjunkturausblicke der Unternehmen. Die Unwägbarkeiten der Gasversorgung und die hohen Energiepreise haben die unternehmerische Unsicherheit weiter erhöht. Die Mehrheit der Unternehmen rechnet weiterhin damit, Preiserhöhungen vornehmen zu müssen.

The results of the WIFO-Konjunkturtest (business cycle survey) show a clear decline in economic dynamics in July. The WIFO Business Climate Index stood at 10.5 points (seasonally adjusted), 6.1 points below the value of the previous month (16.7 points). The results show a weakening in situation assessments and economic expectations. While the situation indicators still point to a positive economic environment, business expectations signal a weak economic outlook for companies. The unpredictability of gas supply and high energy prices have further increased business uncertainty. The majority of companies still expects to have to raise prices.
