The WIFO-Monatsberichte (monthly reports) contain research results and publications by WIFO staff on national and international economic developments based on sound economic analyses. Additionally, important key figures on the international and Austrian economic situation are published in the WIFO-Monatsberichte.

Hatten im Jahr 2018 die Bundesländer mit stärker von der Industrie geprägter Wirtschaftsstruktur von Wachstumsvorteilen profitiert, so verlagerten sich diese 2019 weitgehend zugunsten der stärker dienstleistungsorientierten Länder. Dieses Muster wurde nur von der Steiermark durchbrochen, die laut WIFO-Schnellschätzung 2019 das höchste Wirtschaftswachstum aller Bundesländer aufwies. Die Beschäftigungsentwicklung verlor parallel zur Entwicklung der Wertschöpfung an Dynamik, blieb jedoch in allen Bundesländern positiv.

Economic Slowdown Shifted Regional Growth Patterns. Business Development in the Austrian Länder in 2019
The growth advantages of the more industrialised Länder of 2018 largely dissolved in 2019 in favour of the more service-oriented Länder. This pattern was only broken by Styria, which, according to WIFO's Flash Estimate for 2019, had the highest economic growth of all Austrian Länder. Employment development lost momentum in parallel with the development of value added but remained positive in all Länder.
