Key Indicators of Climate Change and the Energy Sector in 2021. Special Topic: Environmental and Climate Actions in Austria's Recovery and Resilience Plan
In this 14th edition, WIFO presents several key indicators on climate change and the energy industry that underpin the development of greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption and economic performance in Austria until 2019. According to the report, greenhouse gas emissions increased again in 2019 (+1.5 percent) after decline in 2018 (–3.75 percent). Greenhouse gas emissions increased less than gross domestic energy consumption (+2 percent). Nevertheless, the general trend still lacks a decoupling of greenhouse gas emissions from economic development (+1.5 percent). Supplementary, the special topic deals with the climate- and environment-relevant adaptation actions of the Austrian Recovery and Resilience Plan to cope with the upcoming challenges caused by the COVID-19 related economic recession.
