Im Dezember 2021 und Jänner 2022 beschloss die Regierung Maßnahmen, die eine Abfederung der steigenden Verbraucherpreise für Haushalte und Unternehmen zum Ziel haben. Das Entlastungsvolumen beträgt rund 4 Mrd. €. Die Maßnahmen sind stark energie- und verkehrsbezogen und gleichen die verschlechterten Lebenslagen der Haushalte mit geringem Einkommen zu einem geringen Ausmaß aus. Eine mittelfristige Betrachtung zeigt allerdings, dass die steigenden Preise besonders im Bereich Wohnen mit den Maßnahmen nicht erreicht werden. Um die Lebenslagen besonders einkommensschwacher Haushalte zu verändern, braucht es weitere zielgerichtete Maßnahmen.

Government Measures Against Inflation. Potential Impact on Households in Austria
In December 2021 and January 2022, the Austrian government implemented measures to compensate rising consumer prices for private households. The package amounts to about 4 billion €. The measures are strongly related to energy and transport consumption and compensate to a small extent for the deterioration in the standarf of living of low-income households. However, a medium-term analysis shows that the rising prices, especially in the housing sector, will not be offset by the anti-inflationary measures. Further targeted measures are needed to counteract the rising costs of living of low-income households in particular.
