Klaus Nowotny is Senior Economist at WIFO and has been working in the Research Group "Structural Change and Regional Development"
since 2007 and an Associate Professor of Economics at the Department of Social and Economic Sciences at the University of
Salzburg. His research focusses on microeconometric analyses, in particular on issues of international migration and cross-border
commuting at the regional level. He has worked on the FP7 research project "WWWforEurope" as well as on numerous studies for
the European Commission, the European Parliament and national authorities, also as leading researcher. After studying Economics
in Linz, he received his doctorate in Economics from the University of Innsbruck in 2006 and his venia docendi (habilitation)
in Economics from the University of Salzburg in 2017. In 2013 he was a guest researcher at the Regional Economics Applications
Laboratory of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has published in international journals such as Research
Policy, Health Economics, Regional Studies and the Journal of Regional Science.
