Mag. Dr. Thomas Horvath

Function: Senior Economist
Research groups: Labour Economics, Income and Social Security
  • Thomas Horvath is Senior Economist at WIFO and has been working Research Group "Labour Market, Income and Social Security" since 2010. His research interests include changes in the demand for and supply of labour (e.g., within the framework of regular medium-term industry and occupational forecasts on behalf of the AMS), evaluation of (active) labour market policy measures and migration. Another focus of his work is the analysis of longer-term sociodemographic developments by means of dynamic microsimulation, e.g., in the H2020-EU project WELTRANSIM which examines the distributional effects implied by the ageing of the population from a long-term perspective. He is also continuously involved in the preparation of the WIFO Economic Outlook and is a national expert in the Skillsnet network of CEDEFOP. After studying Economics at the University of Vienna and a semester abroad in Amsterdam, he worked at the Institute of Economics at the University of Linz, where he wrote his dissertation on microeconometric labour market analyses in 2015. In addition to numerous WIFO studies and several book contributions, he has also published in international professional journals, including Journal of Public Economics, Journal of the Royal Statistical Society, Regional Studies and Labour Economics.
