Michael Pfaffermayr was an economist (Senior Economist) at WIFO until 2006 and has been again since 2010. He belongs to the
Research Group "Industrial, Innovation and International Economics". Between 2006 and 2010 he was associated with WIFO as
a consultant. He is Professor of Economics at the University of Innsbruck. His research interests include international economics,
regional economics, empirical industrial economics and applied econometrics. He studied at the Universities of Vienna and
Linz and holds a PhD in Economics and Social Sciences from the University of Linz. Michael Pfaffermayr has worked and published
extensively in the field of international economics and regional economics on topics such as international trade and trade
policy, foreign direct investment and regional growth. He has also published papers in the fields of spatial econometrics
and panel econometrics. He is currently working on projects to empirically assess the potential trade and welfare effects
of regional trade agreements, as well as estimating structural gravity models.
