Dr. Thomas Horvath joined the" Labour Economics, Income and Social Security" Research Group at WIFO in December 2010. After
studying economics at the University of Vienna and a semester abroad in Amsterdam, he worked at the Department of Economics
at the Johannes Kepler University Linz, where he received his PhD in 2015 in the field of microeconometric labour market analysis.
His research interests include changes in labour demand and supply, the evaluation of (active) labour market policies and
migration. A major focus of his work is the analysis of longer-term socio-economic developments using dynamic microsimulation,
e.g. the longer-term impact of demographic change on labour markets and welfare states. For example, the H2020 EU project
SUSTAINWELL is studying the distributional effects of population aging from a long-term perspective. He is a national expert
in the skillsnet network of CEDEFOP and a member of the Retirement and Disability Research Center of the National Bureau of
Economic Research (NBER). In addition to numerous WIFO studies and several book contributions, he has published in international
journals such as Journal of Public Economics, the Journal of the Economics of Ageing, the Journal of the Royal Statistical
Society, Regional Studies and Labour Economics.
